A Message from the Head of School

August, 2006

Welcome to Southern Hills Academy! We are very proud of our school and community. Southern Hills Academy was founded in 2001 by a group of parents who were trying to make a difference, and what a difference they have made!

Southern Hills Academy services children from 18 months to tenth grade. We have just successfully completed the first year of our high school program. It is with great pride that we will add a grade to our high school each year with our first class graduating in 2009.

Our philosophy is reflected in our school community, staff, and parents. Everywhere you look people are engaged with the children and their education. Southern Hills Academy is truly a partnership between the school, community, children, and parents. Children's work and dedication is continually displayed, and their creative talents are a pleasure to view. Our school uses a thematic approach to learning, and throughout the building an integrated curriculum is ongoing. It's a joy to stroll through our hallways and see our preschool classes concentrating on the same themes as our lower and upper school classes. The creativity and results never cease to amaze me and the people who visit our school.

The student's love of learning is not only seen throughout our building, but also reflected in our test scores. Our students significantly outperform the national average on standardized tests. Our ninth grade student's scores on the PSAT's, a test for college bound students, showed the results of our philosophy and excellent education. Southern Hills' ninth grade students scored above the national tenth grade average. We are proud to announce that several of our ninth graders scored in the top 2% of all test takers!

Southern Hills Academy also works diligently at being a partner in the Ross County community. We continually offer innovative science programs for the community, such as; Einstein's Challenge, and IICE. Our FUNstitute Camp attracts children from all over the Ross County area who choose from many fun and educational programs during the summer months. CAP, Community After school Program, offers such things as; art, piano, voice, jewelry art, homework helper, and Musikgarten programs during the school year.

It is very important to give recognition to the parents of Southern Hills Academy. Without them this partnership would not exist. We are thankful that your children's future is in our hands. We realize what an investment and sacrifice it can be at times. We commend you and thank you for partnering with us to make a difference in our world. We are looking forward to another great year!
